YouTube Increases Ads but Not All Content Creators Will Be Paid

YouTube will show ads on more videos, but not necessarily pay the video creator or content creator every piece of it.

So far the company shares ad revenue with video creators who are registered in the partnership scheme, when displaying ads before or during their content.

This means that YouTube will not share revenue from these ads with video creators. This policy also means viewers will see more ads across the site.

The company says the YouTube Partner Program is something that should be implemented, and is only available for channels that have more than 1,000 subscribers and have logged up to 4,000 watch hours a year.

However, the partner application process can take more than a month, as applications are queued for manual review by humans.

YouTube says channels that are not in the program will notreceive a share of the ad revenue” although their creators will have the opportunity to apply for YPP as usual if they meet the eligibility requirements.

This policy has drawn a lot of criticism from several YouTubers or content creators. There are those who accuse the company of moving the goalposts in the advertising policy, others say this is YouTube’s effort to encourage viewers to pay for premium ad-free products that are charged Rp.225 thousand per month.

It seems difficult to force more ads on users. However this policy may have some negative effects, especially for users who cannot afford YT’s premium services, wrote one user on the help forum.

Despite criticism, Stokel-Walker assessed that YouTube will still be a popular site and the company will not change this policy.

The number of creators trying to get popular on YouTube means that there are always others willing to replace those who are unhappy with the policy and want to leave, he said.
